Savings

West Brom Building Society has launched an easy-access Isa, paying 1.55% a year. Savers can invest between £1,000 and £250,000. Additions are permitted and up to three penalty-free withdrawals are allowed each year, with subsequent withdrawals resulting in a reduced interest rate of 0.75% for the remainder of the year. This deal is for savers aged 16 and over and can be operated online only.

It’s good because: Savers looking to make the most of their tax-free allowance early might be excited by this. It heads straight towards the top of its sector.

 

Post Office Money has launched a two-year fixed-rate bond paying 1.96% a year. Savers can invest between £500 and £2m. No additions or early access to funds are permitted, although it is possible to close the account early in exceptional circumstances subject to a fee. This deal is for savers aged 18 and over and can be operated online only.

It’s good because: This is a highly competitive deal and sits within the top 10 of its sector.

 

Mortgages

Furness Building Society has launched a two-year fixed-rate mortgage, priced at 4.35%. This deal is for first and second-time buyers who borrow between £20,000 and £250,000 at 95% loan-to-value (LTV). There is no fee. This deal also has the flexibility of allowing overpayments of up to 10% of the mortgage advance.

It’s good because: With no fee, this could be a cost-effective choice for those with modest deposits.

 

Woolwich from Barclays has reduced its five-year fixed-rate mortgage, which is now priced at 3.99% until June 2020. This deal is for all customers who borrow between £5,000 and £500,000 at 90% LTV. There is no fee, and incentives of a free valuation and free legal fees for remortgage customers. It also has the flexibility of allowing overpayments, and offers a Helpful Start Scheme (England only), which allows borrowers to combine their income with family members to help them qualify for a higher advance.

It’s good because: This deal sits comfortably towards the top of the market. With no fee great incentives for remortgage customers, it could prove to be a popular choice.
